INTRODUCING THE 2024 GABS LABEL DESIGN AWARDS
Every year, there are numerous craft beer awards celebrating the best-in-class brews made around the country. Highly trained judges are looking at the style, clarity, flavour profile, aroma and mouthfeel. They're looking at what goes inside the vessel.
But what about the outside label? That brilliantly executed artwork that first catches a craft beer lovers eye. That pop of colour, witty copy, and bold design that leaps off the shelf. In the world of craft beer, first impressions count. It's time to celebrate the creativity of the designers and marketers behind those important moments.
HOW IT WORKS
SUBMIT A DESIGN
We invite you to submit ONE design released AFTER 15 SEPTEMBER 2023. Cast your mind back, gather feedback from your staff and customers, and pick the design you’re most proud to hang your hat on. Design submissions open 29 JULY to 12 AUGUST 2024.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE VOTING
We’ll call on the craft beer lovers of New Zealand to have their say, opening up a People’s Choice voting platform and online gallery 19 AUGUST to 1 SEPTEMBER 2024.
WINNER ANNOUNCED!
At the culmination of the campaign we’ll announce the winner and runners up via all GABS Marketing Channels. Winner will be announced 20 SEPTEMBER 2024.
JUDGING
A shortlist of 10 designs will be presented to a panel of experts for a final assessment. Judging opens 7 SEPT to 13 SEPT 2024.
BREWERY PRIZES
Not only will the WINNER of the GABS Label Design Awards have the honour of claiming the 2024 title, arguably the gold standard in celebrating some of the most creative people in this exciting industry, they will also take home the coveted Orora Golden Trophy and a set of printing plates
DESIGNER PRIZE
It’s not just the winning breweries who receive prizes! The designer behind the winning can design will walk away with $1,000 in cash.

When you live alongside a million cows sometimes you've got to milk the situation. As proud Hamiltonians we designed this packaging to celebrate the mighty Waikato and is a literal representation of the region. Bold and eye catching, the design is a nod to the milk stout and couldn’t get much more Waikato if we tried.
CELEBRATING THE CREATIVITY OF THE CRAFT BEER INDUSTRY
The GABS Can Design Awards will be promoted extensively through GABS Marketing channels, showcasing the designs of every submission through our consumer website, eDM database and social media channels. Supporting this will be a national awareness campaign across multiple channels including PR, media announcements and fan engagement from participating breweries and event partners.
